Position Description
Schedule: PRN Day Shift
Location: Mountain Brook and Float to TKC
To provide and manage patient care in a clinical area for specific age and patient population. To deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. To effectively interact with patient, significant others and other health team members while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
- Responds appropriately to emergency/crisis situations: demonstrates critical thinking skills, demonstrates nursing competency, assists in a calm manner and serves on nurse stat team as directed.
- Provides appropriate care for patient before, during and post procedure: prepares patient for procedure, provides education, assures patient is comfortable during procedure. Properly documents procedures and patient response, administers medication as indicated for procedure, handles and processes specimens according to policy and procedure, ensures equipment is in working order prior to procedure and supplies are available. In Hospital Imaging, responsible for the monitoring of patients undergoing moderate sedation for invasive procedures and patients undergoing nuclear stress tests.
- Provides and documents thorough and accurate patient care while working closely with primary providers and assigned patients.
- Manages patient care and patient flow within clinical area.
- May display effective communication skills by correctly calling in prescriptions at physician's instructions. Obtains and delivers accurate phone messages. Returns patient phone calls in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates personal accountability for professional growth. Meets and maintains current certification/licensure requirements. Completes all mandatory education requirements of clinic. Maintains knowledge of current issues through attendance or documented reading of minutes of at least 80% of staff meetings. Serves as a role model and clinical resource for other team members and orientees.
- Maintains accountability for a safe environment for patients and others. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding departmental operations including all regulatory agencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Associate's degree in Nursing required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment for TKC areas and within one (1) month for Hospital locations. For TKC, current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.
