Overview:
Osage Rehab and Health Care Center, now under the management of Campbell Street Senior Living, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our clinical team. As the Director of Nursing, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of patient care, enhancing resident outcomes, and supporting a team of dedicated nursing professionals.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing care strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading a team that is committed to quality and excellence in patient care.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Management:
- Oversee and manage the nursing department, ensuring that all services are provided in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide leadership, direction, and mentoring to the nursing staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Ensure nursing staff receives the appropriate training and support to perform their roles effectively and safely.
- Develop and implement staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage and support for resident care needs.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to nursing staff.
- Quality Care & Clinical Oversight:
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized care plans for each resident, ensuring care is tailored to meet their unique needs.
- Monitor the quality of nursing care provided to residents and develop strategies for continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular audits of patient care records, assessments, and documentation to ensure compliance with healthcare standards.
- Lead efforts to reduce readmissions, prevent adverse events, and enhance resident satisfaction.
- Regulatory Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure that the nursing department is fully compliant with all local, state, and federal healthcare regulations, including the Iowa Nurse Practice Act and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standards.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and complete documentation in residents' medical records.
- Maintain knowledge of best practices, clinical protocols, and regulatory changes, ensuring the facility is in full compliance.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with the executive leadership team, physicians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and execute comprehensive care strategies.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged in the care process.
- Respond to concerns or issues from residents or families regarding clinical care, resolving them promptly and professionally.
- Budgeting & Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the nursing department's budget, ensuring efficient use of resources while maintaining quality care.
- Ensure appropriate inventory of medical supplies and equipment, and manage costs effectively.
- Emergency Management:
- Provide leadership during emergency situations, ensuring the nursing team responds effectively and residents are safe.
- Lead staff in emergency drills, preparedness plans, and crisis management strategies.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a related field preferred.
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Iowa.
- Certified Director of Nursing Services (CDNS) certification preferred but not required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a nursing leadership role (e.g., DON, Assistant DON, Nurse Manager, or Clinical Director) in long-term care or a skilled nursing facility.
- Proven experience in developing and leading nursing teams, and working with regulatory agencies.
- Strong knowledge of clinical care standards, including infection control, quality assurance, and clinical protocols.
- Skills:
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) systems and nursing software applications.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods during shifts.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to engage with patients or manage medical equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when needed (e.g., assisting with patient transfers or moving equipment).
- Strong hearing and speaking ability to communicate effectively with staff, residents, and families.
- Ability to perform detailed work requiring precision, such as reviewing patient records and ensuring documentation accuracy.
- Emotional stamina to handle high-stress situations, especially in emergency or crisis management scenarios.
- Good vision (with or without corrective lenses) to read medical records, monitor patient care, and ensure safety.
- Ability to handle the physical and emotional demands of working with residents in a healthcare environment.
