The advanced practice provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) to serve as member of Department of Dermatology & Cutaneous Biology. Assumes total care of specific dermatologic patients as is appropriate for nurse practitioner under the supervision of department faculty. Follows established nursing standards, procedures and practices and gives specific patient care directions to staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides direct patient care to general dermatology patients under collaborative agreement with department physicians.
- Provides patient education
- Writes initial histories, assesses patients' conditions and develops individual plans of care.
- Phone triage of patient calls
- Orders appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic studies. Review results and follow-up as appropriate.
- Treats dermatologic patients on a contract basis with VA Medical Center in Wilmington DE
- Supervises Medical Assistants as needed
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the University.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES needed in addition to Essential Functions:
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objective, quality assurance program, safety environmental and infection control standards
- Prepares and maintains records
- Reviews labs and test resu lts and takes appropriate action
- Demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and current literature
- Assist with attending office hours
- Provide clinical support for JOA
- Triage patient telephone calls, evaluate issue, provide advice and direction. Provide emotional support. Provide telephone follow-up of patients with ongoing outpatient issues. Document phone contacts. Communicate pertinent information with appropriate providers.
- Call in prescription medication
- Coordinate care & services w/insurance companies as needed
- Provide outpatient office evaluation and management for JOA patients, including new patients, follow-up visits, and consultations from other providers. Direct and assist with patient care sessions, conducted by MFM fellows and attending physicians.
- Service as resource for JOA practitioners. Provide support and co-management of patients when requested.
- Assist with research studies, identify potential study participants, facilitate contact with investigators, collect and record data per protocols.
- Coordinate care with consultants when appropriate.
- Develop or obtain appropriate and up-to-date written materials of interest to patients. , etc. Assure that materials are compliant with current guidelines and standards. Provide quality web-based resources.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Knows policies and procedures applicable to assigned duties. Uses sound judgment and is aware of potential hazards before taking action. Promptly reports errors/events or situations of actual or potential harm. Understands emergency procedures and can demonstrate appropriate response.
- Provides nursing support to Delaware satellite physicians as necessary
- Provides education to medical assistants
- Master’s Degree
- National Board Certification as a Primary/Family Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- BLS certification
- 1-5 years of experience in Dermatology Preferred
