EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional degree (L.P.N.) as required by the position and current professional licensure by the State of Indiana Health Professions Bureau as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- CPR Certification
- Experience in a medical office, hospital or long term care facility preferred.
- Good communication skills and pleasant phone technique as required handling various telephone and in-person communication with patients, guests, and other medical providers in a professional manner.
- Ability to understand the patients’ needs fears and concerns.
- Ability to separate personal opinions and feelings from professional demands and responsibilities of the position.
- Ability to demonstrate (or acquire with reasonable instruction) sufficient skill level to assist physicians with ordered medical tests, procedures and medications.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as defined by hospital policy.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Prepares patients for the physician and documents according to the physician’s established instructions (e.g. weight, height, temperature, medications, nature and duration of symptoms, etc. as appropriate to the situation).
- May, at times be asked to function in a “scribe” capacity to include: Rooming patient, being in the room during the examination, transcribing what the provider is stating, and other duties.
- Carry out physician orders (e.g. injections, testing, clean and bandage wounds, etc.).
- Assist physician with treatments and procedures as directed.
- Screen incoming Phone calls and respond appropriately (schedule appointment, take a message, etc.).
- Communicate with the patient on questions they may have, repeat and clarify orders and give appropriate instruction for when a patient needs to follow up or receive immediate medical attention.
- Inform parents on how to care for and what to expect from well and sick children according to physician established protocols.
- Clean and prepare room as needed after each patient.
