Director of Nursing

This supervisory position reports to the Psychiatric Nurse Executive, PNE. The Behavioral Health and Treatment Center (BHTC) Nursing Director could serve up to 60 committed residents who are in Civil or Forensic units. The BHTC Nursing Director will provide leadership up to 70 full-time staff and is a member of BHTC senior leadership.

The DSHS Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) provides leadership to transform lives by supporting sustainable recovery, independence and wellness. BHA seeks to improve the health status of multiple vulnerable populations and improve individual and public safety. BHA is responsible for managing the state hospitals, community- and hospital-based mental health services, and implementing the Governor’s Behavioral Health plan and moving long-term Residents into Behavioral Health and Treatment Center. (BHTC)

The BHTC facilities are located at Maple Lane (ML), Steilacoom and Brockmann Campus (BC). The BHTC Director of Nursing position reports to the Psychiatric Nurse Executive, PNE and collaborates with both the Clinical Services Managers and Program Directors of the respective BHTC facilities. This position is accountable for 24-hour management of BHTC nursing services including the direct supervision and leadership of the RN3’s.

The BHTC Director of Nursing is a member of the BHTC Executive Leadership Team.

Some of what you will do

Plan and direct nursing functions in compliance with Washington State Administrative Codes.
Collaborate with the Medical Director, Program Directors, and Clinical Services Managers to ensure shared decision-making and quality care.
Deploy and manage nursing resources to ensure safe, evidence-based patient care while adhering to legal and regulatory standards.
Establish and maintain nursing care standards, roles, and policies, ensuring staff competency through training and evaluations.
Monitor and evaluate patient care systems and nursing practices, using data and evidence-based approaches to improve outcomes.
Ensure accurate and compliant nursing documentation, including treatment plans, progress notes, and assessments.

Who should apply

A valid Washington State license to practice as a registered nurse, or the ability to obtain one by the start of employment.

AND

Four years of professional nursing experience, which includes two years in a lead capacity over other nursing personnel; or one year of full-time experience teaching nursing

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing

One year of full-time experience teaching nursing may be substituted for one year of supervisory experience.

A Master's Degree in Nursing is preferred
