Departmental Overview
UC Berkeley's University Health Services (UHS) is a comprehensive college health service providing fully accredited primary medical care, counseling and psychological services, and innovative health promotion programs for students, faculty, and staff. UHS provides on-campus medical care and coordinates supplemental needs for off-campus care through a network of community specialists and hospitals. The Clinical Services Program within the UHS includes urgent care, primary care and specialty clinics, laboratory, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, and a major medical insurance plan.
Approximately 65,000 visits occur annually including Primary Care, Urgent Care, Occupational Health and Specialty Clinics. Services are designed to enable students to get the most from their educational experience, minimizing the impact of illness, injury and emotional distress on their academic career. Medical care and wellness programs are available to faculty and staff to meet their occupational health needs and minimize lost work time. These visits generate ancillary encounters with the Radiology, Clinical Laboratory, Physical Therapy and Pharmacy departments. The Counseling and Psychological Services department sees an additional 15,000 visits per year.

Responsibilities
Lead Duties
Demonstrates interest, expert knowledge, and the requisite skills and ability to provide leadership, and function as a clinical resource for the T&I Clinic and Mandatory TB and Immunization Program. Consistently models high standards for nursing practice, professional accountability, and teamwork. Demonstrates investment in organizational and unit goals to improve unit efficiency and provide good customer service.
Functions as lead RN for Travel & Immunization Clinic, serving as a resource for other staff and provides clinical oversight as directed, while the Nurse Manager, Travel & Immunization directly supervises Clinical Nurses (RNs), Administrative staff, and Medical Assistants (MAs) on the Travel & Immunizations clinic team.
Maintains a high level of operational, clinical, and institutional knowledge; and knowledge of state, local, and community resources to direct and assist with immunization and TB testing and treatment coordination.
Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, Travel & Immunization and within the scope of clinical licensure, works to establish, maintain, and develop and implement the operations and clinical standards for the Mandatory TB/Immunization program.
Provides T&I specific clinical consultation and support to other UHS clinical departments ; escalated to MD as appropriate
Ensures the integrity and adequacy of supplies and immunizations for T&I Clinic, including vaccine inventory, storage & handling, administration trending, monitoring of expiration dates, developing par levels, and avoiding waste of vaccines
Actively and constructively participates in and/ or leads staff meetings.
Actively seeks areas for Quality Improvement and contributes to ongoing Quality Assurance activities
Under general supervision of the T&I Nurse Manager, assists with RN scheduling as assigned.
Actively contributes to preparation, meetings, and interviews for accreditation
Addresses administrative inquiries and patient complaints and escalates as appropriate.
Implements University of UHS policies and procedures to assure a consistently high level of patient care, safety and customer service
Responsible for ensuring all mailboxes are checked and messages are responded to routinely per policy
Updates clinical staff on immunization and TB clinical updates and ensures that reference materials are up to date in T&I clinic (VIS, immunization schedules and related materials)
Responsible for accurate recordkeeping and submission of TB screening and treatment statistics to CDPH upon request
Direct Patient Care:
Under the supervision of the T&I Nurse Manager, demonstrates mastery for sound clinical decision making utilizing the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic nursing care specific to the Travel & Immunization clinic and Mandatory TB and Immunization Program.

Exercises high level of operational (and institutional) knowledge to direct and assist patients with complex health histories in meeting the requirements of the Mandatory TB/Immunizations program.
Recognizes, interprets and reports abnormal patient findings and determines when a patient is at risk or potentially at risk and consults appropriately with MD/NP.
Advanced knowledge of patient rights and responsibilities, rules of confidentiality, and patient privacy.
Documents assessments, interventions, care and response clearly, legibly, accurately, concisely, and consistently in accordance with UHC policy via an electronic medical record.
Provides and supports team to provide appropriate patient teaching, health education and related counseling to promote patient and community health.

Current unrestricted CA RN license
Current BLS certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
At least 3 years experience at at UHS Travel & Immunization Clinic
At least 2 years experience conducting tuberculosis screening, counseling patients with latent TB, and managing care of patients undergoing latent TB treatment
Demonstrated increasing levels of professional development

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $80.50 (step 10) - $ 88.89 (step 15).
This is a 80%, full-time (32 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.
