Aspen University has an opening for a Dean, School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
The Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences provides academic leadership, supervision, management, and support to the CCNE-accredited nursing and health sciences programs. The Dean provides leadership by fostering quality educational experiences in accordance with the mission and goals of the university. The Dean oversees strategic goals for the programs and works closely with the program directors in scheduling, planning, recruiting, and onboarding faculty, troubleshooting, and maintaining readiness for regulatory and accreditation activities. The Dean provides leadership for the assessment, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement of the programs. The Dean ensures that the nursing programs are in compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements with regards to its faculty, processes, students, and curricula, as well as their persistence, retention, and graduation rates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides academic leadership, supervision, support, and mentoring to nursing and health science program directors.
- Plans and executes program initiatives to establish and maintain high-quality programs within budget guidelines.
- Develops and implements operational policies, practices, and procedures to govern the smooth operation of the programs and fosters adherence to them by staff and faculty.
- Oversees faculty and staff recruitment and interviewing processes to ensure appropriate and timely faculty and administrative staffing; assists the program directors with the recruitment and management of faculty and staff as needed.
- Ensures faculty inclusion through meetings, evaluations, professional development, trainings, and onboarding practices.
- Oversees the analysis of outcome measurement data to demonstrate program effectiveness and to foster program improvement initiatives; ensures programmatic data dialogues and the development of assessment reports; ensures acceptable persistence, retention, and graduation rates.
- Fosters a safe, open dialogue for a collaborative working environment among nursing and health sciences faculty and administrative staff.
- Maintains a strong, supportive, and collaborative relationship with university administrators, faculty, staff, and students to facilitate an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body.
- Implements and enforces the policies and procedures that govern faculty outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
- Oversees the nursing and health sciences advisory committees.
- Collaborates with the Office of Accreditation, Regulatory Compliance, and Institutional Effectiveness to ensure full accreditation and regulatory compliance by the nursing and health sciences programs.
- Collaborates with the Office of Faculty Services and Scholarship to ensure faculty training needs and requirements are addressed.
- Evaluates nursing and health sciences program directors annually.
- Participates in university leadership and departmental meetings as required.
- Provides oversight and leadership support to the Office of Field Experience.

Qualifications and Education Requirement:
- PhD or EdD, preferably in Higher Education Administration or Leadership, or DNP degree required.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from an accredited institution required.
- Active, unencumbered RN Licensure, preferably multi-state.
- Minimum five (5) years of related Nursing leadership, management and supervisory experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of related experience in teaching nursing didactic and/or clinical courses in a post-secondary institution.
- Previous experience in nursing programmatic accreditation processes and preparation.
- Demonstrated ability to work with faculty, staff, and students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks in a timely manner within a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to think strategically and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a high level of professional integrity.
- Strong time management and organizational skills in a dynamic, constantly changing environment.
- Working knowledge of program assessment and strategic planning strategies.
- Working knowledge of budget development and management principles.
- Working knowledge of academic nursing program curricula.
- Preferred record of active involvement in scholarship related to nursing programs.
- Preferred familiarity with Microsoft Office and/or Google Office Suites, Tableau data visualization D2L Learning Management System, and Project Concert; and Watermark products.
Salary Range:
$135,000 - $145,000/year
Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, location and other job-related reasons.
Work Environment:
- The essential functions of the job are usually performed in an environmentally controlled facility where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may involve working in a combination of office and classroom environments. Travel by car, plane, train and other modes of transportation may be required for this position.
- While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
