LPN Position Overview
The LPN’s role is to help educate and assist each client in achieving and maintaining their highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being through the provision of medication and treatment administration and through quality, personal care. The LPN must be able to maintain client confidentiality in accordance with state and federal guidelines and HIPAA requirements.
LPN Responsibilities
- Help to oversee the medication administration of prescribed medications and treatments per doctor’s orders.
- Administer medical/nursing services as appropriate.
- Provide telephonic on-call counsel to program staff after normal work hours and on weekends, typically scheduled one week per month.
- Educate clients and staff on medical and physical components of a healthy lifestyle.
- Help to educate and monitor tech staff in accurate use of “EMAR.”
- May conduct breathe analysis and urinalysis collection and documentation.
- Assist in the treatment planning for clients and work with staff to provide direct, quality care for clients in accordance with nursing practice standards, established policies and procedures, individual treatment plan and regulatory requirements.
- Help to manage client’s medical needs and act as a liaison with outside providers and community resources to improve client’s quality of care.
- Understands and follows emergency fire and weather policies and procedures.
- Understands and follows incident/accident reporting policies and procedures.
- Responds to client emergency medical needs, when required.
- Attends treatment groups and other client and staff meetings as directed by Program Director or Nurse Manager.
- Communicate with families, referral sources, and outside healthcare providers in a professional manner.
- Provide culturally sensitive and relevant services to diverse clients and their families.
- Other duties as assigned or required.
Required Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience for the LPN:
- Must have a current LPN license in the State of Minnesota.
- Must be age 18 or older.
- Must have current First Aid/CPR Certification obtained within 30 days of starting work.
- Must be able to pass Minnesota DHS background study.
- Must be free of problematic substance use for at least two year immediately preceding employment and must sign a statement attesting to that fact.
- Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds.
- Possess maturity, patience, understanding and empathy with recovering individuals and work with a multidisciplinary team.
- Physical Demands: Sitting for extended periods of time. Daily use of computer, phone, and other household and office equipment. Lifting (max 25 pounds), minimal reaching, bending and stooping.
- Conducts self in a professional manner.
- Competent computer skills and able to effectively enter information in various systems.
Preferred:
- Possess excellent oral and written communications skills.
